About the Founder

Karen O. Johnson, MEd is the founder and primary seminar presenter for EveryDayGrief. Mrs. Johnson brings over 37 years experience in the education industry and is the driving force behind the company's curriculum development, training seminars, and educational material. Prior to founding EveryDayGrief, Mrs. Johnson held various positions in district office administration, and elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education as a teacher, counselor, principal, crisis director, and coordinator of Safe and Drug Free Schools. She began individual and group counseling in 1981 and began trainings for the Helping Professional in 1987.

Mrs. Johnson is currently the Area Chair, Lead Faculty of the Social Sciences Behavior Science Human Services Program at the University of Phoenix. As well as offering EveryDayGrief seminars on grief and loss, she runs small group workshops for helping professionals on specific skill-building for individual and group counseling techniques for grief support groups and crisis response. She also offers support groups for individuals who have had a loved one die. Mrs. Johnson brings with her authentic stories and practical ideas on handling the grief process, making her a popular speaker for conferences and training sessions.

She holds a BA in English/Speech from the University of Utah, a Masters of Education in School Counseling from Brigham Young University, an Administration Endorsement from Utah State University, and English as a Second Language Certification from the Utah State Office of Education. Mrs. Johnson is a member of the American School Counselors Association (ASCA), the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), and the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW), Utah School Counselor Association (USCA), the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC), and the National Organization of Human Services.

Currently, Mrs. Johnson is completing the writing process on her new book, a comfort book, perfect for personal use, as well as a gift for loved ones, or a counseling tool for professionals.
